About
In the summer of 2021, the City of Sioux Falls was awash with conversations relating to sustainability. The City of Sioux Falls was revising its Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, and many members of the community were asking how they could do more to improve our environment. One such conversation inspired a desire to recognize those actors in our community who are striving to create a greener future. Thus, Building Sustainable Connections was formed to promote climate-forward actions in eastern South Dakota! In 2022, we received our status as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization and launched our Green Business Certification Program on Earth Day '22
Organizations that have taken steps toward operating in a more environmentally responsible way tend to enjoy higher efficiency, a better bottom line, more motivated and healthy employees, and a marketing edge over the competition.

Our organization is dedicated to environmental improvements that foster a sustainable future and lead to social and economical improvements in the community where we live and work. We hope to create an equitable, green, and thriving community in South Dakota.
Mission
The core function of Building Sustainable Connections is to encourage sustainable actions from area business leaders. Our community of member entities are working to create positive environmental impacts.
What We Offer
Building Sustainable Connections encourages organizations to apply for our Green Business Certification Program to communicate their commitment to environmentally sustainable practices within their business. Certified businesses are able to utilize our certification logos in all marketing and corporate materials; receive award materials to display in their building; and are listed in our Green Business Directory.
